- Tired of waiting on the floppy drive to "gronk, gronk, gronk" when you're
- copying files or looking at directories on floppies?
-
- QuikFlop speeds up the heads on your floppy drive and, more importantly,
- turns the drive off immediately so you can change floppies without waiting for
- the drive to eventually quit turning.
-
- This program is not memory-resident and does not directly manipulate any
- hardware. QuikFlop manipulates the BIOS Data Area to reset two parameters set
- by the computer during the Power-On Self-Test (POST). These are the head step
- rate and the motor-off count. The program was optimized on my AT with one 360k
- drive and one 1.44 meg drive; it was very close to optimal on my wife's 4.77
- mHz XT compatible. About the worst that could happen to you would be to get a
- "Drive Not Ready" warning from DOS if it isn't compatible with your machine.
-
- QuikFlop can be run at any time, though preferably in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
- |Type "quikflop" at the DOS prompt to see the help (nothing will be done).
-
- | Start QuikFlop by typing "quikflop /Q" to speed up your floppy drives. Type
- |"quikflop /R" to set the drives to the default IBM parameters. The program
- |will accept upper or lower case characters. Any other parameters are ignored
- |and the help screen is displayed.
-
-
- version information:
- 1.00 original release; hardcoded speedup information
- | 2.00 takes command line switch to turn on or reset to defaults.
- | help screen shows syntax
-
- Warranty and Licensing Information:
- Don't pull my leg. If the program breaks your machine, you get to keep both
- parts. This program is placed in the public domain for any use whatsoever.
-
- Enjoy,
